BURNSIDE H.S.
Extension Plan Approved Building development at the Bumside High School which will include two rooms for art classes, two for dressmaking classes, a technical drawing room and a large classroom has been approved by the Education Department This was announced at a meeting of the school’s board of governors on Thursday. The department has also granted $7458 to move the gymnasium changing rooms nearer the new gymnasium, which will be opened on April 30.
Art work at the school was being strangled because of lack of space, the headmaster (Mr C. Cross) said. The building development would include a new block and extensions to an existing block. The draft budget presented to the board for 1968 was $lOOO less than a very conservative estimate obtained from the school’s heads of departments, Mr Cross said. “I don’t think we were being extravagant, and in many cases I can’t justify not spending.” he said. “A competent and energetic teacher uses a lot of class materials—he is here at 8 a.m. running off prepared notes, tests and maps, all of which need paper—and I am loath to say, ‘You can’t have it’."
