VESSELS COLLIDE

(N.Z.P. A. -Reuter —Copyright) EAST BERLIN, April 14.

The West German submarine Hunter and the 12,442-ton East German pleasure steamer Volkerfreundschaft collided today near the Baltic Sea Island of Fehmarn, the East German news agency, A.D.N., reported.

There were no casualties and the Volkerfreundschaft later reached the RostockWarnemuende Harbour. A.D.N. said. It said that the collision was the result of a serious attack on peaceful shipping by German warships, and that the Foreign Ministry spokesman had strongly protested against “this act of piracy by the West German Navy.” A.D.N. said the Volkerfreundschaft was returning with 499 passengers from Cuba when it was obstructed by two West German Navy ships in the Fehmarn belt. The Hunter “purposely rammed and caused damage to the port side of the Volkerfreundschaft."
