Governor’s Bay
Heavy damage was suffered by orchardists and market gardeners at Governor’s Bay in the storm.
Three large glass-houses ; were flattened, apple trees i were battered, and tomato plants smashed down. One] grower said that his tomato, loss, with the crop halfharvested, was between $2OOO and $3OOO, just at the time prices were starting to move up On the rocks in the bay were four demolished motorboats, and at Cass Bay the trimaran yacht Tactile was reported a total loss. Owned by Messrs N. H. and C. Jones, she gained fifth place in the W’ellington-Akaroa yacht race in January.
Coaster Delayed. The coaster Seaway Princess would not leave for Lyttelton next week, a spokesman for the Northern Steam Ship Compan' said. The new 1200-ton vessel is still at a wharf where engineers are trving to overcome the mechanical troubles.—(P.A.)
