Bishop’s Aim

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) SAN FRANCISCO, April 12. A Protestant bishop has proposed that the world’s Christian leaders should meet in Rome, under the chairmanship of the Pope, to create a new force to help solve problems dividing whites and non-whites. Bishop C. Kilmer Myers, of the Episcopal Church Diocese of California, in an open letter to the Christian Church says man’s essential struggle is no longer the ideological conflict between capitalism and communism. “It is between the white race and non-whites,” he said. “It is between the techno-logically-advanced communities and the underdeveloped communities.” In the letter, prompted by the assassination of the Civil Rights leader. Dr Martin Luther King, Bishop Myers suggests setting aside the world conference of Anglican bishops in London and the World Council of Churches’ meeting in Sweden this summer, to make way for the Vatican congress.
