Medical Aid To Vietnam

Sir,—l support the efforts of Mr W. Jermyn to establish a local branch of the Medical Aid Committee as reported in “The Press” on Wednesday. Irrespective of their opinions on the justification, or otherwise, of our intervention in Vietnam there are many people who are appalled by the vicious bombing and widespread use of napalm and phosphorus. Nothing can justify such barbarity practised on a predominantly peasant population. The provision of medical aid offers us an opportunity to alleviate some of the suffering and to demonstrate that all New Zealanders do not approve of such weapons. The featuring of the fact that Mr Jermyn is a Marxist is regrettable. Would it matter if he were a Martian? In this connection L for one, will aid his humanitarian efforts which are supporting those of such eminent men as Lord Boyd Orr and other world figures of equal standing.—Yours, etc., E. R. HUDSONApril 12, 1968.

Mr D. J. Saltiel, of Christchurch, has been elected senior vice-president of the Institute of the New Zealand Motor Industry.
