Another Tram For Park

Ferrymead Historic Park will gain another tram tomorrow after members of the Tramway Historical Society collect a hay shed at West Eyreton which, in other days was tram Nd. 24 on the PapanuiCashmere run.

No. 24, a hill car, will be replaced as a hay shed by tram No. 167, which is less suitable for restoration. “We will move two trams on the one day,” said the society’s restoration officer (Mr D. Hinman) yesterday.

The two electric trams were given to the society No. 24, built in 1920, and No. 167, built in 1012. Some years ago Mr S. Bradford, of South Brighton, gave the society his tram, which had been used as a bach. It had been intended to take the tram to Ferrymead eventually, but it was found to be unsuitable for restoration as it had been altered considerably. Recently, the society found another tram of the same type at. West Eyreton, on the property of Mr E. D. Bradley. Mr Bradley agreed to give the tram to the society but he was using it as a hay shed and could not let it go so the

society decided on the replacement. “We will use parts of 167 for restoring 24,” said Mr Hinman. “During the last week the members have jacked up 167 to sft so a truck can back under to pick it up. Mr Hinman said that the society was working on another tram at present so No. 24 would be put into the depot. It was intended to restore it so that it could run at Ferrymead with passengers.

A convertible tram, it has a saloon at one end and removable sides at the other so it can be used as an open car. Both sides slide up into the roof.
