Dispute Settled
(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, March 20.
Auckland Harbour Board employees will now operate the controls for the Fergusson Wharf link span when the Northern Steam Ship Company’s roll-in freighter Seaway Princess uses the berth.
A dispute between watersiders and the harbour board employees some weeks ago over who should operate the controls was put before a tribunal and the tribunal decided in favour of the harbour board men.
Auckland watersiders working the Union Steam Ship Company, Ltd freighter Hawea will still control the link span when working her cargo as their terms of employment on the Hawea come under a separate agreement The Seaway Princess was delayed on her first cargo voyage because of the dispute. An urgent meeting of the Port Conciliation Committee was called and it was decided that watersiders should work the link span for the Seaway Princess until a decision was reached by the tribunal.
