Settlement, Reached
A settlement of the $15,000 damages claim against the In, metals Trading Company, Ltd, a New Zealand-wide firm of scrap-metal merchants, was announced in the Supreme Court yesterday. • The settlement, for an undisclosed sum, was announced by Mr G. S. Brockett, counsel for the plaintiff, Royston Peter Conway, a tool and diemaker, who had claimed damages for a hand injury suffered when he fell on to a heap of sharp scrap metal while helping lift a box of scrap in the defendant company’s yard. Mr Conway had claimed that the man helping him, an employee of the Inmetals company (Mr R. P. Thompson); had been negligent in pushing the box towards him. causing him to overbalance and*Mr Justice Maearthur. after complimeiittag the parties on thMr settlement of the case, discharged the jury.
