First Maori Mission
A special stewardship mission to strengthen the work of. the Maori Anglican Church in Christchurch and to develop new mission activities will begin on Sunday, Although since June, IMS, 18 parishes in the Anglican Diocese of Christchurch have conducted stewardship campaigns. this will be the first organised by the Maori Mission.
The mission will begin with a combined service in St John’s Church, Latimer Square, at 11 a.m. Maori people in Christchurch and members of the congregation of St John’s have been invited.
The service will be conducted by the minister at St John’s (the Rev. Canon D. D. Thorpe), the Anglican Maori Missioner in Christchurch (the Rev. M. M. Mete) and the diocesan stewardship adviser (Mr E. L. Mascall). In the afternoon a meeting will be hold at St John’s to discuss proposals to strengthen the work.
In his monthly report to the diocesan standing committee, Mr Mascall said that this year six parishes would be involved in stewardship missions and he already had notice that two other parishes would hold missions next year.
