NO PENALTY SUGGESTED
Probationary Drivers
The possibility of having races for probationary drivers made penalty-free is to be investigated by the handicapping committee of the New Zealand Trotting Conference. The committee will present a report on the subject to the next meeting of the executive, on April 6.
The executive at its last meeting considered requests from the New Zealand Trotting Horsemen’s and Trainer’s Association, and the Canterbury Park Trotting Club, that no penalty be attached to races for probationary drivers. Both organisations said they felt that owners would be much keener to support such races, and country clubs would secure strong and attractive fields if the races were penalty-free. Also, it would be added encouragement for young drivers.
