(Neto Zealand Press Association)
WELLINGTON, March 13.
“New Zealand Week” to be staged next week in the sixth largest city in Australia, Newcastle, in New South Wales, will be the biggest single New Zealand tourist promotion and export drive ever held in Australia.
Releasing details of the publicity campaign, today, the Minister of Tourism (Mr Thomson) said the week would be centred on the retail store of the Newcastle and District Co-operative, Ltd, one of the largest stores in Australia.
The week will open next Monday and will place emphasis on the sales of New Zealand goods by the store and on encouraging tourists from the Newcastle area to visit New Zealand.
The promotion is a joint effort of the Tourist and Publicity Department, the Industries and Commerce Department, External Affairs Department, the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation, Air New Zealand, Qantas, 8.0.A.C., the Wool Board, the store, and other Newcastle interests. Some 50 New Zealand firms have now sold more than 100 different products to all 10 departments in the store.
