Street Fair For Chch
Kilmore Street, between Manchester Street and the Caledonian Hall, will be closed to traffic from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, to enable the Canterbury Repertory Theatre Society to hold a street market and fair there, along the lines of the famous markets of Portobello Road and Petticoat Lane in
The Christchurch City Council has granted the temporary road closing. A procession of vehicles and floats through city streets tn the morning will travel from the Public Library across the Hereford Street bridge, along Oxford Terrace, Cashel Street, and Colombo Street, and througl Cathedral Square to Kilmore Street. The parade, which will move off at 10 a.m., is expected to reach the Repertory Theatre by 10.25 a.m., and five minutes later the Mayor of Christchurch (Sir George Manning) will open the market fair.
Twenty or more vintage vehicles, including a fireengine carrying a busker band, will be in the parade. Other bands, skating clowns marching teams, fashion models, a long-distance cyclist, and members of a pony club will also take part
