SMART GALLOP BY CHEETAH

“The Press" Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. Cheetah, which will be W. D. Skelton’s mount in the Lockwood Hack Handicap at the Manawatu meeting on Saturday, was the best trialist at Awapuni yesterday. Cheetah ran a smart five furlongs on the inside rail and looks a likely improver. Others to please included Both Ways and Janess.

On the inside trial Cheetah scampered over five furlongs in Imin 2 l-ssec, the last three in 37 l-ssec. Cheetah failed at Napier Park but did not race kindly on the fence. She looks ready for a better effort this week. On the course proper Both Ways was travelling well beside Winning Words at the end of a smart five furlongs in Imin 3 2-ssec, the last three in 37 4-ssec. On the plough where most of the work took place, Supa and Jazz finished clear of Wilma Rudolph at the end of seven furlongs in Imin 53sec, the last three in 40sec. Synthetic and Grand Coeur took Imin 36sec for seven furlongs, the last three in 41 2-ssec. Synthetic should run well in the Te Wanaka and Grand Coeur is fairly forward to resume in the Kairanga High-weight. M. Dombroski will ride him. Gayemana and Janess ran from the six furlongs with Janess in front at the finish in Imin 19sec, the final three in 40 3-ssec. Gymkhana worked over two
