Mission May Move
The Anglican City Mission house, St Martin’s House of Help, 199 Antigua Street, may be moved to 273-275 Hereford Street if the land at Antigua Street is sold. The Antigua Street land, 17 perches zoned industrial, was offered at a public auction by Mr R. Simes of W. E. Simes and Company, Ltd, yesterday, but was passed in at $12,000. If the land was sold later, the mission house would be shifted, the secretary of the Social Service Council of the Diocese of Christchurch (Mr F. A. Gunn) said yesterday. The single-storey building at Antigua Street is still being used as a city mission. It was built 20 years ago. A previous building on the same site was used as a soup kitchen and a night shelter in the depression.
