New Customs Appointment

WELLINGTON, March 12. The Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr Marshall) today announced the appointment of Mr J. H. Randal, of the Customs Department, as an “emergency protection authority.”
This new appointment has been made so that quick action can be taken in cases where imports are damaging 'domestic industry. Mr Randal’s appointment will be for a three-year term starting on March 18. It is the first appointment to this position under the Tariff and Development Board Amendment Act, 1967. Since 1959 Mr Randal has been the director of the revenue division in Customs head office.
