FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation. —A weakening ridge of high pressure lies over northern New Zealand; a cold front moving north-eastwards over the South Island is expected to become very weak. Forecast:

Canterbury.—Moderate and variable winds; weather partly cloudy and mild. Marlborough.—Moderate north-westerlies; a few brief showers about the ranges this morning; otherwise partly cloudy and warm. Nelson. South-westerly winds, mainly moderate or fresh, but strong in exposed northern places; fine and mild. Buller and Westland.—Moderate to fresh westerly winds; partly cloudy and mild. Outlook. Showers at times in Buller and Westland; fine elsewhere.
