TECHNIQUES IN ROADING
U.S. Authority To Visit
New methods of road engineering will be discussed in New Zealand this month by Professor W. S. House!, professor of civil engineering at the University of Michigan. He is an expert on soil mechanics and asphalt reading. His visit has been sponsored by Mobil Oil New Zealand, Ltd. Professor Housel has been consultant for more than 600 major civil engineering projects in the United States and other countries. In New Zealand he will spend some time in the Toko-roa-Rotorua area where roadsurface stabilisation has always been a problem because of the nature of the soil.
He will then hold one-day conferences with engineers from the Ministry of Works. National Roads Board, and others interested in soil mechanics and asphalt paving. The Christchurch conference will be on February 16.
