Cigarettes At Old Prices
(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, Feb. 6.
No price rise for cigarettes has been authorised apart from some increases approved for small quantities of imported cigarettes as a result of devaluation. This assurance was given by the Examiner of Trade Practices and Prices (Mr G. H. Datson). The increases will not affect major brands manufac tured in New Zealand. Applications received from the trade are at present being examined by the Department of Industries and Commerce These will be considered by the Price Tribunal, which will decide any adjustment required.
Frozen To Death.—Three persons have frozen to death in Iran, where heavy snowfalls, blizzards and gales have caused disruption during the last two days.—Teheran, Feb. 4.
