RAILWAYS DISPUTE
Men Return To Work
All railway employees involved in the dispute over train examiners’ rosters returned to work at 10 a.m. yesterday—four hours after the Christchurch rail stoppage began.
The District Traffic Manager, of Railways (Mr M. R. Leineweber) said that more talks would be held between representatives of the Railways Department, the train examiners, and the Canterbury branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants. It was hoped that the dispute would be settled in the next few days. The Christchurch-Invercar-gill express was delayed an hour and 48 minutes, leaving at 10.28 a.m., and four passenger services between Christchurch and Lyttelton were cancelled. All trains on the Christchurch - Lyttelton line were running normally after 10 a.m.
Several goods trains from Christchurch were delayed, but all were back to normal running after midday.
