L Plate Appeal
(N Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 5. The Minister of Transport (Mr Gordon) today appealed to motorists to be more careful over the use of L plates on their cars. Mr Gordon said that many motorists were not making proper use of the plates and consequently their value was being reduced.
“Too many L cards are fixed permanently to rear windows, which suggests that not all drivers of a car with a card displayed necessarily rate one.
“The fact that they are permanently attached also means that many of them are faded and difficult to see from a following vehicle," he said. The Minister said that cards were available, in easily attachable form, that could be removed when an experienced driver took the wheel.
