AWARD FOR SAFETY
Finn’s Record Commended
The Shands Road factory of Laminex Industries had shown what could be done to reduce and even eliminate industrial accidents, if there was a positive approach, said the Member of Parliament for Riccarton (Mr M. A. Connelly) yesterday. He said it was of great merit for a factory to win its second award for 100,000 man hours of safety performance, without an accident.
“It really means that this factory has done 200,000 man hours free of accidents,” said Mr Connelly. “It reflects great credit on the workers, the management, and the owners of the business.”
The safety performance award was presented by Mr Connelly. He said he was pleased to hear that the firm was now aiming at a safety performance of 250,000 man hours without an accident. Mr Connelly also presented a $5O cheque from the general manager of Australian Consolidated Industries of N.Z. (Mr C. M. Cairns) to a representative of the factory’s safety committee. Yesterday’s presentation was attended by the senior field officer of the National Safety Association in Christchurch (Mr G. V. Williams).
