Film Company Take-over

Corgi Books—one of Britain’s largest paper-back publishers—is involved in a £l6 million take-over bid by an American film production and distribution company, it was announced today. Agreement has been reached in principle for the film company—National General Corporation—to acquire the American publishing firm of Grosset and Dunlap, together with its subsidiaries, Bantam Books and Transworld Publishers, which publishes Corgi books in Britain and the Commonwealth.
The managing-director of Transworld, Mr Patrick Newman, said today: “We have always believed that a strong alliance between paper-backs and motion pictures is highly desirable since, quite simply, we at Corgi selling entertainment ;•
