1000 Torchbearers Honour Princess

(N.Z. P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) FREDENSBORG (Denmark), Feb. 4. Princess Benedikte, daughter of King Frederik and Queen Ingrid of Denmark, and the 23-year-old German Prince she married yesterday, Prince Richard of Sa y n Wittgenstein Berleburg, went on their honeymoon today to a secret destination.

Snow covered the town as the Princess entered the eighteenth-century chapel of Fredensborg Castle, 25 miles north of Copenhagen, with her father for the ceremony. She was wearing a dress of white diamond satin with the lace veil that had been worn by her grandmother, mother and two sisters at their wed dings. The simple ceremony, which lasted only 40 minutes, was conducted by the Royal Chaplain (Bishop Erik Jensen). The 200 guests included King Constantine of Greece and Queen Anne-Marie, younger sister of the bride, King Olav of Norway, and King Gustaf Adolph of Swe den.

Britain’s Queen Mother, who entered the chapel with King Olav, was one of the most strikingly dressed of the Royal guests, wearing a dress of gold lame. Other Royalty present included Crown Prince Harold of Norway, Crown Prince Carl Gustaf, Princess Sybilla and

Princess Christina, of Sweden, and Princess Margaretha of Sweden, now Mrs John Ambler. Princess Benedikte, who is considered by many to be the most beautiful of Denmark’s three Royal sisters, was flanked during the ceremony by four Danish and two German bridesmaids in dresses of golden silk. When the bride and groom left the chapel they drove through the town at the head of a processiong of 1000 torchbearers, who threw their blazing brands into a giant flaming pile as the drive ended.

The couple first met in 1966 and became engaged in March of last year.
