Quality Still Good

Wheat quality continues to be quite good according to the director of the Wheat Research Institute, Mr R. W. Cawley. No bug damage and very little sprout damage have yet been observed

in samples. Mr Cawley said that he would say that the harvest was still not in full swing. He reported on Thursday that 1270 samples had so far been received by the institute, including 300 on Wednesday. With 340 samples tested, the average baking quality score for Hilgendorf this season was 43 and for Aotea 36.5. Last season when 500 samples had been tested the corresponding average for Hilgendorf was 37.6 and for Aotea 34.7.
