ENTRY OF RAMS MUCH BIGGER

Nearly 800 more rams than last year have been entered for the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s flock ram fair which will be held on February 8 and 9. At 1025 the Romney entry is the second biggest, having ; been previously exceeded i only in 1960 when there were 1109. I On the other hand the I Southdown tally at 819 is one I of the smallest for this breed. | Only 806 were entered in ; 1956. At 399 it seems that the offering of South Dors6t J Downs will be the biggest seen at this fair. The English Leicester entry at 83 is the largest since 1963 when there were 112, and the Border Leicester selection at 285 is the biggest since 1961 when there were 298. The entry is drawn from the usual sources. Apart from Canterbury, there is quite a fair offering from Southland and also some from Marlborough and Otago. As was the case last year, the rams will be sold in the pens in the sheep pavilion.

The sale of the mutton breeds will be held on February 8 and of the wools breeds on February 9. Because of the size of the entry some of the pens will have to be used a second time during the fair. Details of entries are:—

The total entry for the two days is 3498 compared with 2710 last year.
