Three Men Sentenced

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Jan. 26. Three men appeared for sentence before Mr D. G. Sinclair, S.M., today on charges arising from anti-Vietnam demonstrations in Paritai Drive, Orakei, last October. Graeme Harold McLay, aged 18, drughouse worker, was sentenced to a detention centre (maximum three months) for resisting Constable A. B. Edwards in the execution of his duty. He was fined $lOO for disorderly behaviour. John Roger Sawers, aged 21, a fitter, was sentenced to four months in the adult periodic detention centre, with one year afterwards on probation, for assaulting Constable A. W. Trenewan, in the execution of his duty. He was also fined $lOO for resisting a constable. William John Sawers, aged 52, a nightwatchman, was also sentenced to the adult periodic detention centre for four months, with one year’s probation afterwards, for assaulting Constable R. L. Kerr, in the execution of his duty, and fined $lOO for resisting a constable. He was also fined $25, with restitution $4, for wilful damage.
