Biotechnology is the technology of the processing of materials of biological origin, in which courses and research are being developed at Massey University. The field is allied to biochemical, microbiological and chemical engineering, is expanding overseas and is of major significance in New Zealand; the courses are new and offer considerable scope for originality and the development of new ideas. The duties of the appointee would include some under-graduate teaching in process engineering and applied chemistry, assistance with practical courses and participation in research. It would be possible to undertake work towards a post-graduate degree, or the post might be offered on a temporary basis to someone wishing to proceed overseas at a later date. Qualifications sought are a degree or equivalent in chemical engineering or applied chemistry, and some industrial experience would be an advantage.
