UNIVERSITY VACANCIES THE UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS APPLICATIONS are invited for Postdoctoral Research Fellowships tenable in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Physical Sciences and Biological Sciences, in the University of Sydney. ELIGIBILITY: Candidates should normally hold a Ph.D. degree or be await* ing the result of a Ph.D. examination, or have research publications revealing equivalent status. TENURE: Fellowships are tenable for one year, but tenure will normally be extended for a second year. VALUE: The salary will be In the range of $4500-35645 (Australian) per annum. For Fellows coming from overseas, there will be an additional travel grant equivalent to a tourist class sea fare with a further grant not exceeding $2OO towards the fare of a Fellow's wife. Corresponding grants will be made for return travel. An expenses grant, up to $7OO in any one year, may be made available to the Department In which a Fellowship is held. Registrar. 3768 UNIVERSITY OF QUEENSLAND READER/SENIOR LECTURER IN MATHEMATICS (STOCHASTIC PROCESSES) The University Invites applications for the position of Reader/Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics. An applicant should have a distinguished academic record and have published significant contributions in the field of Stochastic Processes. The successful applicant will be responsible to the Head of the Department of Mathematics and will work under the direction of the Professor of Statistics. The appointee will join the Statistics group of the Department, and will be expected to undertake reasonable lecturing and examining duties and such other relevant duties as may be required. He should be capable of playing a major part in developing and encouraging research in Stochastic Processes and supervising research students in that field. The salary range for a Reader is 3A9180—3 x 240 3A9900, and for Senior Lecturer is $A7500—5 x 250—3A8750 per annum. Registrar. 3680 UNIVERSITY OF QUEENSLAND UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF TOWNSVILLE SENIOR DEMONSTRATOR IN GEOLOGY Applications are invited for the position of Senior Demonstrator in Geology from graduates who should have an honours degree in geology with particular interests in mineralogy petrology or economic geology. Experience in geochemistry or in X-ray techniques could be advantageous. Duties will include teaching in the laboratory and field and a share in maintenance of the departmental collections. Opportunities are provided for research and if appropriate the successful applicant will be expected to study for a higher degree. Salary: $4275-4 x $llO, 1 x $125$4840 p.a. The successful applicant will be required to give such instruction and to carry out such examination work as may be considered necessary by the Dean of the Commerce Faculty. The present position provides rewarding opportunities for candidates with special interests in organisation theory and practice. Salary ranges from $3OOO 35400 per annum depending on ex perieince and qualification. The status of Senior Lecturer may be awarded as a mark of personal distinction either in initial appointment or by subsequent promotion. The salary of a Senior Lecturer will be not less than $4600 per annum. A particularly well qualified candidate could be appointed at the grade of Associate Professor at a salary within the range $5600 to $6600. The University Council would expect to approve a request for permission to undertake a limited amount of outside consulting work. The successful applicant is expected to commence duties on July 1, 1968, but an alternative date might be arranged to suit the successful applicant.
