Softball Sides Should Win

The experienced Canterbury teams, Monowai and Christchurch West, should meet only token resistance when they play in the zone matches of the national Dustin Cup, the symbol of club supremacy in womens softball, at Nelson this week-end. They will meet Nelson City and Gold Stars (Nelson) and the Blenheim representatives, Wairau and Paramount. Monowai, the New Zealand champion on six occasions, has been undefeated in club matches this season but will need to show a keener approach than it has in recent weeks. Christchurch West, like Monowai, consists entirely of players who have represented Canterbury and has shown enthusiasm and drive in recent weeks. Several members of the Marlborough team that extended Canterbury at the national inter-provincial tournament are included in the Wairau and Paramount teams which should provide more opposition to the Canterbury representatives than the Nelson sides.
