In the accompanying diagram:— A. is part of the bud stick, showing how and where a leaf is removed so as to leave- half an inch of leaf stalk. The dotted line encloses the bud and illustrates the cut to be made to detach it from the bud stick. B. Bud removed from bud stick. C. T-shaped cut on stock. D. Opening up the cut with spatula end of budding knife. E. Bud inserted into stock with arrowing pointing to protruding end. This should be cut off level with the cross of the T. F. Bud bound tightly In position with a rubber strip. Note that all cut surfaces are covered.
