West Coast Tea Study
(N.Z. Press Association) GREYMOUTH, Jan. 23. The possibility of growing tea in sub-tropical areas of the West Coast is being investigated by the new public relations officer at Greymoutb (Mr D. F. Lydford). Mr Lydford, who has had some experience in tea planting, said the idea was not as ridiculous as it sounded. “Tea bushes are often found growing in gardens in Christchurch and other parts of New Zealand,” he said. Tea needed plenty of rain, good drainage, and some heat, but it could grow in colder climates. Mr Lydford said he had already written to the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research suggesting that an experimental plot of tea be planted.
