Aust. Mail Cleared
With the Australian mail strike ended, almost 9001 b of air mail held at the Chief Post Office in Christchurch for up to 13 days, was cleared to Australia yesterday on evening flights. “With the restoration of the Australian mail service, people can now post for Australia at will,” said the deputy chief postmaster (Mr C. V. Jury) yesterday. The first inward air mail from Australia reached Christchurch last evening on a flight from Melbourne. More than 12001 b of air mail left on the first flight out of Wellington yesterday, says the Press Association. A spokesman from the Post Office said that 3771 b went to Melbourne and 8531 b to Sydney, and this had completely cleared the Australian mail backlog.
