Bad Crash In Cycling

In probably the worst crash at English Park for years, three amateur cyclists last evening suffered bad injuries and another two had minor grazes.

With less than half the distance covered in the one-mile Percy Cole Memorial race, a big bunch chasing the front riders disintegrated in flying wheels and bodies. When the debris was cleared, it could be seen that B. Berry had very bad facial injuries; G. R. Sword was unconscious; and B. G. Stockwell had suffered cuts, and rib and hip grazes and bruises. All three were taken to hospital; Berry and Sword were admitted for observation and Stockwell was discharged. J. H. Cleary and D. Jones also crashed but were relatively unhurt. While these riders were being attended to. there was another mishap when the young cash rider, R. Bates, came down. He was treated for grazes and burns and appeared to be fairly comfortable.
