Farmer On Tour
A 25-year-old Australian farmer, Mr R. D. Thomas, of Leeville, New South Wales, who is on a four-month sponsored tour of New Zealand, arrived in Christchurch on Monday. Mr Thomas is a member of the Rural Youth Movement in Australia (which has as its equivalent body in New Zealand, the Young Farmers' and Country Girls Clubs) and won a tour of New Zealand sponsored annually by the Bank of New South Wales. He has been a member of the Casino Rural Youth Club since 1958 and has held various administrative positions in the club. His interests include beef cattle raising, pasture improvement and beekeeping. He is a member of the New South Wales Graziers’ Association and this year will be one of the Rural Youth observers at the association’s annual State conference.
