Petition On Whips
The efforts of a retired Christchurch man, Mr R. J. Glen, to organise a petition tc Parliament to ban the use of whips on racehorses are being supported. Papers for 200 signatures have been sent to Hamilton, and considerable sympathy has been expressed in Christchuch. A lifelong opponent of cruelty to animals, Mr Glen Is seeking helpers to gather signatures for a petition “that legislation be introduced pro'bibiting the use or carrying of a whip in any horse-racing event.” Mr Glen said yesterday that he had refused several offers of financial assistance. “1 do not believe in buying a moral decision, and if it cannot be decided voluntarily it is better left alone,” he said.
