HORSE HOSPITAL AT SYDNEY
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 23. The New South Wales millionaire Mr S. Fox, a big purchaser of yearlings at the national sales, will soon establish a horse hospital in Sydney—a hospital unique in Australia.
Mr Fox made his fortune in coal, and is now semi-retired. He has been interested in horses for some five years. He attended last year’s sales at Trentham, and has so far spent more than $lOO,OOO at this year’s event. His great dream has always been to provide the facilities and the skills to care for thoroughbreds that might have broken down, temporarily or permanently. Within three months he is to realise his dream; it is a million-dollar one. Already, on 200 acres at St
Mary’s, 40 miles west of Sydney, Mr Fox has established a clinic for broken-down horses. The well-known Australian veterinarian Mr Percy Sykes has been engaged to care for these horses. All Facilities There are 86 horses there now. Among the many treated have been the Melbourne Cup winner Galilee and the well performed Farmer’s Daughter. But the great improvement to Mr Fox’s clinic will come in April, when a hospital of more than 15,000 sq. ft will be completed. “It will be just like any hospital for any human being.
There will be X-rays, an operating theatre, and all the facilities to diagnose, treat and cure any ailing horse,” said Mr Fox today at. Trentham. “If we break even we’ll be very happy,” said Mr Fox when asked about costs.
