LAMB AIR SHIPMENT

Human Error Admitted (N Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Jan. 23. Australian rejection of an air shipment of New Zealand lamb was the result of human error, the director of the Animal Health Division of the Agriculture Department (Dr S Jamieson) said tonight. Dr Jamieson said the shipment had been sent to Australia on an aircraft which had carried animal produce outside Australasia within the last three months. This, he said, was contrary to regulations which applied in both countries. He said the error had been a human one made by the airline. The regulations protected imports to both Australia and New Zealand and the Australian authorities had been well within their right to reject the shipment. It was the first mistake of its kind he could remember.
