The Canterbury Kiwis under-21 cricket team scored 342 and then took two quick wickets on the first day of the three-day “test” against Northern New South Wales Emu Colts at Tamworth. Centuries by J. Riley and A. E. Collins and useful support from J. F. Jackson and P. D’auvergne enabled Canterbury to reach its fine total. Scores:— Canterbury Kiwis 342 (Riley. 106, Collins 104, Jackson 32, D’auvergne 25, D. McRae 10: Smith 4/128, Gerrard 2/47, Cannon 2/72) met Northern New South Wales Emu Colts 29/2 (Allen 17, Mattison 11). The Kiwis won their previous game, against Narrabi, at Narrabi, by 116 runs. After scoring 327 for six wickets declared, the Kiwis dismissed the home side for 211 (Shine 105, Guest 46; C. Galwey 3/74).
