Unemployment
Sir,—l agree with “Mother of Five,” but will go further and say I think all men, irrespective of whether they are single or not, should be compelled to retire from their jobs when they reach the age of 65 years, and their places taken by men with wives and families to support. Many employers do not like to put an employee off when he has reached the age of 65. especially if he is a good worker and has been with the firm for many years. However, we are now living in hard times and the employer must face up to this fact and give help where it is most needed. If employees were forced to produce their birth certificates yearly to an inspector from the Labour Department, this could be a definite step towards overcoming this “over-age in jobs” problem.—Yours, etc., FAIR PLAY.
