Broken Bottles
Sir, —The broken bottle menace has been getting worse year by year. The number of bottles thrown out of cars all over the country has become a real danger and could cause terrible accidents. Our beaches are a favourite resort for drinking parties, and these drinkers think nothing of breaking bottles by the dozen, leaving a menace for children. I suggest that everyone who buys liquor from a hotel or wholesaler should be charged 10 cents a bottle. The purchaser would get a receipt, and the money would be refunded when the bottles were returned. I cannot see anyone throwing away 10 cents’ worth of bottle; I’ve never heard of anyone breaking flagons for fun.—Yours, etc., H. H. MOLLER. January 22, 1968.
