TREMORS IN SICILY
Panic Among Refugees (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) PALERMO (Sicily), January 22. Fresh tremors shook eastern Sicily yesterday causing panic among refugees from the earthquake-stricken western part of the island. Authorities, who requisitioned schools, hotels and army barracks today to house thousands of refugees, said last night 201 bodies from last Monday’s disaster had been recovered. The confirmed number of injured was 560. One of yesterday’s light tremors, at Contessa Entillina, a mountain town near Palermo, opened up fissures in the ground which spouted sulphur vapour. Three days of incessant rain have forced the earthquake victims out of tent camps into the cities where many wandered aimlessly in the streets.
