JUVENILE RACE

Palamos By Length (Front Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON. A former Riccarton trainer. E. G. Rosewarne. had a winning experience as an owner at Trentham, when Palamos won the Nursery Handicap on the second day of the Wellington Spring meeting yesterday. Rosewarne, who races the My Pal colt on lease in partnership with his wife, has had the good fortune after many earlier disappointments to secure one of New Zealand’s most consistent young horses. In seven starts Palamos has not been further back than second, and his win yesterday was his second. Both wins have been at Trentham. The other was in a handicap in the spring after Yamaha had beaten him in the Wellesley Stakes. After Weenell beat Palamos in the Welcome Stakes at Riccarton in November, Rosewarne said he felt confident that the colt would develop his best form at six furlongs. Yesterday’s race was only his second at that distance. Palamos came from the middle of the field for his win yesterday. His storming run carried him to the front going to the last furlong, and he went on doggedly to win by a length from the top-weight, Sharif. Parmestan, the outsider of the nine-horse field, was only a short head back third. He ran in the leading line to the straight and Sharif had a battle to master him for second.
