(New Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, January 22. A youth was convicted on two charges arising from an incident at a house fire in New Plymouth on Saturday night when he appeared before Mr A. W. Yortt, S.M., today.
Gordon Lance Holland, aged 19, a fork lift driver, who pleaded guilty to behaving in a disorderly manner end drinking in a public place while under 21 years, was fined $3O on the first charge and $lO on the second. Sergeant A. P. Barker said that at 11.25 p.m. on Saturday Holland was one of a large crowd gathered at a fire at 310 Devon Street East. He started to yell at firemen and chant, “Sieg heil.” He moved to the front of the crowd and bounced a car by the front bumper. Before this he was standing on the footpath drinking from a bottle of beer, said Sergeant Barber. “Some of you young lads, as soon as the police arrive,
seem to want to make something of a stir,” said the Magistrate. “I get some of you along here almost every Monday for the same sort of stupid behaviour.”
