DIED OF INJURIES
82-Year-Old In Crash
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Jan. 22. A man died in North Shore Hospital yesterday from injuries suffered in a road accident at Pakiri, near Wellsford, on December 26. He was Lieutenant - Colonel Trevor Maxwell Carpendale, aged 82, of Pakiri. In spite of a broken ankle and other injuries, he crawled through the bush in the darkness to get help after his small car plunged down a 500 ft bank. He joined the Bth Bengal Lancers, and served in France, the Middle East, and India before retiring in 1932 as a lieutenant-colonel commanding a regiment. He spent a further six years commanding an Indian maharajah's private army.
