ACTORS RAISE ANTI-WAR FUND

A dozen of America’s top show business stars, headed by the singers, Harry Belafonte and Barbra Streisand, last night staged an anti-Vietnam war concert in New York to raise election funds for politicians opposed to United States involvement in the conflict.
About 2000 people, some of w’hom had paid 250 dollars a seat, packed the Lincoln Centre’s Philharmonic Hall for the show. The organisers said they expected to raise about SUS 100,000 to open a “peace chest" to support the campaigns of Senators and Congressmen opposed to the war who will seek re-election in November. They said similar concerts were planned in other major United States cities in the coming month. Other stars who gave their services were the actors, Tony Randall, Robert Ryan, Eli Wallach, and Alan Arkin, and the composer-conductor, Leo nard Bernstein. The programme included songs and readings from Ame rican literature expressing anti-war sentiments. Among those who will benefit from the fund-raising effort are Senators Wayne Morse (Democrat, Oregon), Ernest Gruening (Democrat, Alaska), and Stephen Young (Demo-
crat, Ohio), and Congressmen William F. Ryan (Democrat, New York), John G. Dow (Democrat, New York), George E. Brown (Democrat, California), Phillip Burton (Democrat, California), and John Conyers (Democrat. Michigan).
