Narcotic Charges At Auckland
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Jan. 22. William David Field, aged 22, a seaman, pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court at Auckland today to a charge of using morphine, a narcotic. He was sentenced to two months imprisonment by Mr N. M. Izard, S.M. This is to be followed by 12 months probation, special conditions of which are that Field is to live and work where directed and take such medical treatment as may be directed. A charge of breaking and entering a doctor’s surgery, to which Field pleaded not
guilty through Mr H. M. Romaniuk, was dismissed. Sentencing Field, the Magistrate said that he was taking into account that he had already been two months in custody. A 21-year-old Australian girl, Dorothea Joy Lindsay, was charged in the Magistrate’s Court at Auckland today with using pethidine, a narcotic, on January 19. She was also charged with having four hypodermic needles for the purpose of administering a narcotic. On the application of Sergeant T. B. Wallace she was remanded under the Mental Health Act, by Mr N, M. Izard, S.M., until February 19.
