NEW CRAFT LAUNCHED
Chatham Is. Plans
A 40-foot steel-hulled trawler, the Prospector I, built by Sherlock and Cotton, Ltd, Christchurch, for Mr T. Reid, of Invercargill, was launched in Lyttelton’s inner harbour yesterday afternoon by the floating crane Rapaki. Mr Reid, a survivor of the Rimu disaster off the Mernoo Bank last year, said that the Prospector I would probably join the Timaru trawler Moray Rose in convoy later this week in a voyage to the Chathams to engage in crayfishing. The master of the trawler Picton flew from the Chathams recently to take the convoy. He is Captain A. S. Aberdein, who is now waiting at Lyttelton. The Prospector I was brought over the Evans Pass road by articulated road transport vehicle yesterday morning. Some fitting out is still required.
