OFFICER RETIRES

Salvation Army Farewell About 200 officers and members of the Christchurch corps of the Salvation Army, mostly from the inner-city churches, attended a farewell meeting for Brigadier I. Roch in the Salvation Army Citadel, Victoria Square, on Sunday afternoon. Brigadier Roch, who has retired after nearly 20 years as secretary of the Centerbury and Westland division of the Salvation Army, served in other parts of New Zealand as an officer and in secretarial work before joining the Christchurch corps. The service was led by the divisionl commander (Brigadier S. A. Smith) who presented Brigadier Roch with a retirement certificate on behalf of the Commissioner of the Salvation Army in New Zealand (Commissioner C. Davidson, of Wellington). Other speakers were Major F. Reeves of the Linwood corps, representing the field officers; Major D. Handisides, matron of the Salvation Army’s Eventide Home for I Women, representing social service work; and Brigadier |J. Wilkes, president of the I Salvation Army Retired Offileers’ Association.
