Prince Six Triple Peels In Retaining Title
J. Prince (Lower Hutt), played brilliantly to retain without loss his New Zealand open croquet championship in Christchurch yesterday.
Prince scored a record six triple peels in the championship. Yesterday in the final play-off section he scored one against Mrs B. A. Jarden, also of Lower Hutt, and one against A. G. F. Ross of Hastings, Ross beat Mrs Jarden in the semi-final play-off for second place in the open championship. Ross was in fine form and delighted the spectators by completing his second triple peel. tis, who finished the game In three breaks, was a British representative in 1963 and this year won the South Island open and men’s titles. Matches for the Heenan Plate were also played. This event is for competitors who are runners-up in the open championship sections. J. McNab (Christchurch) had to fight hard to beat Mrs L. M.
