Litolff Close To Record
Continuing his brilliant form at Denton Park, M. W. Litolff last evening came within .4sec and .ssec of the national cycling record for a flying quarter-mile. In his first ride of the Hornby Amateur Cycling Club’s handicap omnium series last evening, Litolff overcame a strong wind to return 25.95ec, within striking distance of V. L. Newlove’s New Zealand record of 25.5 sec. Later in the evening, after two hard rides in points and- handicap races, Litolff was timed at 26sec. Litolff also won a very interesting omnium, made the more interesting because the front-markers were given a
chance with the handicaps. Before the final race, a handicap one mile and a half, 2f points covered the leading six riders and D. N. McEvoy made a great effort to take the race with a long solo ride. But Litolff and B. Berry caught him 20 yards from the line. McEvoy won the club’s junior individual pursuit title with a time of 6min o.2sec. beating D. Clephane. The back-markers dominated the placlngs in the flrst two boys’ races but in the final event, A. H. Haynes, who later did a fixing quarter-mile in 38sec, hung on to his handicap to win from P. Knight.
